My Three Lives

So, I officially have three major projects that I'm working on this year.

1. Work. The school is like two jobs unto itself. There's always something to be done.

2. Graduate School. It's a major commitment. I think I'm finally starting to settle into a pattern with it, but it's been difficult.

3. I was just elected Vice President for the DC Area Alumni Association of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the national music fraternity. It's a flattering nomination and an exciting venture, but it is also going to be a lot of work! I think I can do it though. I'm young and I'm driven so now is the time to do these kinds of things.

Sparse Posting

My posting has become sparse for a couple of reasons.

First of all, school has started and so I have been very busy, obviously.

Secondly, Comcast has been acting up a lot lately. I would like to take this moment to say to everyone, please, do not ever get Comcast "high-speed" internet. My internet is currently slower than when I had dial up.

I've tried to call them over several times to fix it. The first time we waited around for three hours. Eventually they called and said, "Do you really want us to come over?" It was late and we were tired, so we said that we didn't. But, of course, internet continued to give us problems.

At that point, it had been going slow at times and normal speed other times. But, it continued to get slower. We called again. This time they actually came. However, he didn't bring the right kind of modem with him to replace ours, which, by the way, was hot to the touch. So, he said, maybe it was just the wire that connected to my computer. (That didn't really account for the fact that my wife's computer was also working slowly, but, it sounded like a good idead at the time). It might behoove me to mention that the internet was working well on that day, so we tested it and he went on his merry way.

In the days that followed the internet continued to become slower and slower. We called again. After finding out how irate I was about the situation and after I demanded a refund for the past month (I was frustrated because working on a research paper with internet that slow is VERY tedious), the operator stated to me that their system had gone down and that they weren't allowed to have pen and paper at their desks so she wouldn't be able to call me back. Frankly, I think she might be lying.

Anyway, we're looking into DSL.

School is going well. I can definitely see the work I did last year paying off this year. My second graders, in particular, are very advanced. I'm doing music with them that I probably wouldn't have attempted for another couple of years at other schools. It should be an exciting year!

Business As Usual

I apologize for my lack of posting lately. Between starting the school year off with a bang and starting grad school, it hasn't left time for very much else!
Currently, I'm working on a paper talking about the advantages and disadvantages of charter schools. Once I'm finished with that paper I may actually have some time to post here!
